Javed Akhtar has reacted to the Karnataka Hijab row on social media. He said that he has never been in favour of hijab or burqa but has deep contempt for these mobs of hooligans who are trying to intimidate a small group of girls.
Javed Akhtar on Thursday, February 10, expressed disgust over the incidents that unfolded in Karnataka recently. The Karnataka government's ban on the hijab in schools and colleges has resulted in a huge uproar and protests in the state. The state government has invoked 133 (2) of the Karnataka Education Act-1983, which says a uniform style of clothes has to be worn compulsorily.
Earlier, Kamal Haasan, Richa Chadha, Onir and Aly Goni slammed protesters for heckling women. Now, Javed Akhtar took to Twitter to condemn the act. He wrote, "I have never been in favour of Hijab or Burqa. I still stand by that but at the same time I have nothing but deep contempt for these mobs of hooligans who are trying to intimidate a small group of girls and that too unsuccessfully. Is this their idea of “MANLINESS” . What a pity (sic)."

Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to condemn the act. He wrote, "What is happening in Karnataka is provoking unrest. A religious poison wall is being erected among the students who are not lying. What is happening in the neighbouring state beyond the single wall should not come to Tamil Nadu. It is time for the progressive forces to be more careful (sic)."
