The artisans in Varanasi have made a special wooden tableau on Lord Krishna's life for Janmashtami. Have a look.
As Janmashtami is here, devotees all across the world are pumped up to celebrate this festival. Amid this, some artisans from Varanasi have made a special wooden tableau of Lord Krishna's life.
These wooden toys are made by artisans of Varanasi whose traditional techniques of creating toys from wood and lacquer have also been awarded the geographical indicator (GI) tag. They have prepared a 45-piece pre-assembled tableau set which is in high demand, not just in India, but also among some NRI devotees.
These tableaus depicting incidents of Naag Nathaiya, Makhan Leela and Kans Vadh have been created in such a way that they can be laid out and decorated even in small flats and apartments.
Owing to the vast number of Lord Krishna's devotees spread across the globe, these pre-assembled pieces are also being exported to countries such as Spain, Australia and the United States of America.
With the introduction of various schemes like One District-One Product (ODOP) and the recently unveiled Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, these traditional craft works have found a much-needed platform and market.
Local artisans and workers are encouraged and motivated by the positive development of market trends toward previously neglected industries.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gifted a 'Ram Darbar' made of Varanasi's wood art to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the G-7 summit in June.
