‘Jaat’ makers remove controversial scene after religious backlash, FIR against Sunny Deol

‘Jaat’ makers remove controversial scene after religious backlash, FIR against Sunny Deol

Controversial scene deleted from Hindi film Jaat after FIR filed against actors for allegedly hurting Christian sentiments.

Responding to the controversy over a scene “hurting sentiments of Christians”, the makers of the Hindi film Jaat have decided to delete the specific scene. On Friday (April 18, 2025), an FIR was lodged against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda and three others from the film following a complaint that a scene in Jaat had “hurt sentiments” of the Christian community.

In an official statement, the makers confirmed that the scene has been removed. “There has been a backlash for a specific scene in the movie. The scene has been removed with immediate effect,” said the makers.

The complainant, Viklav Gold, a Christian community leader, alleged that the movie, which was released on April 10, contains scenes that disrespect Jesus Christ and Christian religious practices.

The makers of Jaat said in their statement that “their intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments.” They added, “We deeply regret it and have taken the action of deleting the scene immediately. We sincerely apologise to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt.”

Jaat, directed by Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni, revolves around an Andhra Village plagued by injustice and brutality. One day, an outsider, who calls himself Jaat, discovers the sorry state of affairs and decided to to take on the system.

The movie also stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Regina Cassandra and Saiyami Kher in prominent roles. The Hindu in its review of the film said, “The violence is explicit, where severed heads are captured like money shots, and crimes against children, young women, and the old are used to manipulate the audience. If you can leave the discerning palate behind, this mass feast is for you to savour.”

Jaat is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory. The film raked up close to ₹60 crore in its first week in India. Recently, the makers announced a sequel to the movie.
