J&K: More than 8 lakh students benefitted under Mid-Day Meal Scheme

The centrally run Mid-Day Meal Scheme benefited over 8 lakh students in Jammu and Kashmir, according to an official spokesperson.
The Mid-Day Meal Scheme has benefited over eight lakh youngsters in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the union territory administration. An official spokesperson stated, "From the days of being underachievers to achieving front-runner status, the statistics reveal that the growing population is being significantly covered under the centrally sponsored schemes in J&K.”
He went on to inform that the central government’s Mid-day Meal Scheme, which was designed to enhance the nutritional standards of school-age children across the nation, has benefited over 8.30 lakh children in Jammu and Kashmir.
Recounting the benefits received under the SSA, the official added, "Similarly, under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA), a pioneering programme in the education sector of the country, 1,588 Information Communication Technology labs, 1423 Computer-aided Labs, 803 Vocational Labs have been established in J&K besides uniforms and textbooks worth Rs 67 crore were provided to 7.8 lakh children.
“The Scheme is a major catalyst to bridge the digital divide amongst students of various socio-economic and other geographical barriers," he said further.
Furthermore, the Poshan Abhiyan, an overarching umbrella scheme aimed at improving the nutritional outcomes of children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers by focusing all stakeholders' efforts on a comprehensive package of intervention and services targeted at the first 1,000 days of a child's life, benefited around 8.96 lakh people.
