The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Narcotics Task Force conducted raids in Punjab on Thursday and apprehended a wanted interstate drug dealer.
In a major breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested the 'most wanted' drug dealer during a series of raids in the neighbouring state of Punjab.
Senior Superintendent of Police, ANTF J&K, Vinay Sharma said that in connection with the investigation of the narcotics smuggling case, a team of ANTF led by Inspector Ankush Chib and Sub-Inspector (SI) Amandeep Singh under the close supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Arun Jamwal was constituted.
The team carried out a series of raids in the Balchaur and Kathgarh areas of Nawashehar, Punjab, and arrested a notorious drug dealer who was also the main receiver of narcotics and psychotropic drugs smuggled from Jammu and Kashmir to the Punjab area and was operating from Kathgarh and its adjoining areas, including Balachaur, Nawashehar, Punjab.
The 'most wanted' person arrested was identified as Bachottar Singh, a resident of the village of Jandi Kathgarh, Nawashehar.
The SSP said that Bachottar Singh used to deposit money in the accounts of drug dealers in South Kashmir who would further transport drugs by concealing trucks going from the Kashmir valley to Punjab, where Singh used to collect the drugs and sell them to the local youths in exchange for a large sum of money.
"With the arrest of a key drug dealer, ANTF Jammu has been able to break the forward chain network of narcotics and psychotropic drugs from the Kashmir valley to Punjab," he said, adding that concrete efforts are also being made to disrupt the drug racket's supply chain.
Meanwhile, the SSP asked the public, particularly young people, to avoid using drugs.
