A six-member team of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police scaled Mount Karzok Kangri in Ladakh amid extremely cold conditions earlier this week.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s (ITBP) central mountaineering team scaled the 20,177 feet high Karzok Kangri peak in Ladakh on February 20 amid extreme weather conditions. The minimum temperature in the region is minus 40 degrees Celsius these days.
The team of six ITBP mountaineers was led by Commandant Ratan Singh Sonal and Deputy Commandant Anoop Negi. This was the first ever ascent to Mount Karzok Kangri.
The team did not use any special mountaineering equipment or support system.
Raised in 1962, the ITBP guards the India-China borders. The force has completed more than 225 mountaineering expeditions and is trained in mountain warfare.
