It’s natural for people to doubt me, will sort it out and win: Babul Supriyo on WB bypolls
India Today
TMC leader Babul Supriyo, while talking exclusively to India Today, said that it is natural for people to doubt him as he was earlier with the BJP. He said that he will sort it out and will win the Ballygunge Assembly bypolls.
Babul Supriyo is all set to contest the West Bengal Assembly bypoll from Ballygunge seat on a Trinamool Congress ticket. He has started his campaign for the upcoming bypoll on March 14.
However, there has been an objection from the Bengal Imam Association over his candidacy. The chairman of the Imam Association, MD Yahya, was a vocal supporter of Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 elections. The Imam claimed that they had an objection with the candidate, Babul Supriyo, as they alleged that Supriyo was also responsible for communal clashes in Asansol when he was BJP MP in 2018.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, the former union minister, stated that it was natural for people to question him.

"I was in a different party. I played for East Bengal and after 8 years I joined Mohun Bagan. If I miss 3 goals, it is natural that people will question me or doubt me. We have to speak, sort it out and win," said Babul Supriyo.
The seat of Ballygunge, which fell vacant after the demise of former minister and veteran TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee, has a sizeable minority population. Supriyo started his campaigning with a workers’ meeting at Beniapukur, a predominantly Muslim populated area of Ballygunge Assembly constituency. Supriyo sang a Mohammed Rafi classic, 'Badi dur se aaye hain, pyaar kaa tohafaa laaye hain' while addressing the workers.
"I have come from a different party, from very far. All I can give them is love and these people here are ushering me with love and this is how we will win this seat," said Supriyo.
