ISL | East Bengal gets the better of Mohammedan SC

East Bengal FC defeats Mohammedan SC 3-1 in ISL match with goals from Mahesh Singh, Crespo, and Lalhlansanga.
East Bengal FC returned to winning by downing its city rival Mohammedan SC 3-1 in an ISL fixture at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Sunday. Naorem Mahesh Singh found the lead in the first half before substitutes Saul Crespo and David Lalhlansanga produced more goals in the second half to complete the tally. Carlos Franca scored the lone goal for Mohammedan.
Despite the win East Bengal remained in the 11th spot with 21 points from 20 matches while Mohammedan remained at the bottom (13th place) with 11 from 20.
East Bengal controlled the action for a greater part of the opening session and found the goal near the half-hour mark when Mahesh Singh produced a spectacular finish. Just when Mohammedan appeared to put pressure for the equaliser, East Bengal doubled the lead in the 65th minute. Forward Raphael Messi Bauli intercepted a defender to set up Saul Crespo who chipped over goalkeeper Padam Chettri.
Mohammedan pulled one back in the 68th minute when Franca saw his angular effort beating East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh.
Mohammedan had a couple of more chances to find the equaliser, but could not produce the desired finishing.
On the other hand East Bengal found the net once again in the 89th minute through Bauli’s replacement David to seal the match in its favour.
The result: Mohammedan Sporting 1 (Carlos Franca 68) lost to East Bengal 3 (Mahesh Singh 27, Saul Crespo 65, David Lalhlansanga 89).
