Irish woman puts up her husband for sale at auction website. Here’s why
India Today
Linda McAlister posted an ad on an auction website where she put up her husband for sale.
An Irish woman living in New Zealand has made headlines for a rather peculiar listing that she made on an auction site. Linda McAlister, a mother of two, listed her husband John McAlister on the auction site Trade Me for sale! Linda put up the listing after John went on an impromptu fishing trip for two days, leaving her alone in the house with their two kids.
Linda described John McAlister as a 6’1, 37-year-old farmer. However, the ad simply doesn't end here. The more you read, the more hilarious it gets. According to a report by The Mirror, Linda, who lives with her family in rural Rangitkei, New Zealand, said the fishing trip was “not unusual behaviour” from her husband, who was a “shootin’, and fishin’ sort of fellow”. However, the trip was inexcusable regarding its timing, considering kids were on school holidays and bed times were “slipping later and later,”
Linda shared the ad and the queries she received regarding it on her Facebook profile.
Take a look:
Surprisingly, the auction attracted 12 bids and saw the bidding rise to $100 (around Rs 7,400) by Tuesday. There were many funny queries too! Several would-be buyers were curious about their could-be husband, while another offered to trade him for the one they had. However, the post was removed by Trade Me a few hours later. According to the report by The Mirror, the auction site’s policy and compliance manager James Ryan said, "It was the first time in recent memory they had seen someone list their spouse for sale".
But it was all in good humour and Linda and John are still together.
