Ireland record 1st-ever ODI win over South Africa: A huge day for country, says captain Andy Balbirnie

Ireland lead the three-match ODI series 1-0 with the first match washed out after Balbirnie's 102 led them to a historic victory over South Africa.
Ireland will be celebrating their first-ever ODI win over South Africa but stay focussed on the ultimate target, which is to win the series, said captain Andy Balbirnie. Balbirnie's 102 off 117 balls helped Ireland beat South Africa by 43 runs in the 2nd ODI in Dublin. With the first ODI washed out, the win has made it impossible for Ireland to lose the three-match series, with the third ODI scheduled to be held on Friday. While Balbirnie was the highest scorer, the highest partnership came between Harry Tector, who scored 79 off 68 balls, and George Dockrell - 90 runs for the fourth wicket off just 46 balls. "Tector's freedom while batting was match-winning. We'll enjoy this - it's the first time we have beaten them and it's a huge day for Ireland. We will have a few beers, it's not everyday that you beat a team of this stature but we have another target in mind, that is to win the series on Friday," said Balbirnie in the post-match presentation ceremony.More Related News
