IPL 2023: Trevor Bayliss will take over Anil Kumble as the head coach of Punjab Kings for the new season. The Australian tactician had won as many as 2 IPL titles with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 204.
Former finalists Punjab Kings on Friday, September 16 announced Trevor Bayliss as their head coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. The Australian tactician will replace Anil Kumble, who quit as head coach earlier in September.
Trevor Bayliss will work with Mayank Agarwal, who has been retained as captain after another ordinary campaign from Punjab Kings earlier in 2022.
Bayliss's appointment comes hours after Mumbai Indians confirmed the appointment of former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher as their head coach.

Bayliss has an envious track record as a coach. The 59-year-old was the head coach of England when Eoin Morgan's men lifted the ODI World Cup at home in 2019. Bayliss also forged a wonderful working relationship with former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir as the two were instrumental in helping KKR win 2 titles, one each in 2012 and 2014.
"I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware," Bayliss said after taking over as coach.
Bayliss's recent stint in the IPL came with SunRisers Hyderabad in the 2021 season. He was replaced by Tom Moody for IPL 2022. SRH appointed West Indies great Brian Lara as their coach earlier this month.
