IPL 2022: PBKS vs KKR, Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has started to struggle against leg-spinners and needs to get his act together. Iyer was dismissed by Rahul Chahar in their win against Punjab Kings on Friday.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said on Saturday that Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has begun to struggle against leg-spinners, and that he needs to get his act together.
Kolkata Knight Riders beat Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, winning two of their games, sitting at the top of the table in the Indian Premier League.
Punjab Kings got all out for 137, which seemed to be an easy target to achieve, but the last season’s finalists were made to work for it. KKR were 51/4 in the sixth over, with all their top order including skipper Shreyas Iyer gone.
Punjab Kings seemed to get themselves back into the game when they brought spinners into the attack and it paid dividends. Rahul Chahar bowled a double wicket maiden, dismissing Nitish Rana (0) and Shreyas Iyer (26 runs off 15 balls).
In the sixth over, Shreyas tried to target the shot towards the boundary on the leg side, but couldn’t get it right. The execution didn’t quite come off for the skipper, enabling Kagiso Rabada to get an easy catch. The KKR captain has been comfortable in the power play previously, especially against seam bowling, but looked uncomfortable against Rahul Chahar.
“Shreyas Iyer seems to have an issue with leg-spinners. It looks at the ball and seems he wants to hit a six. Last match he got out to (Wanindu) Hasaranga. He's too good a player to play shot like these get out. Yes, Shreyas, you got to get your act together,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
This might be becoming a pattern, as in their game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was caught by RCB captain Faf du Plessis when he tried to go hard against leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, after a decent start, scoring 13 off 10 balls that included two boundaries.
