IPL 2022: Mumbai police gears up to ensure full security for matches

After a break of two years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has returned to India and the first match will be played at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on March 26. Mumbai Police said all the necessary arrangements have been done in the view of providing security for players and IPL matches.
The Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the country's biggest sporting events, returns for its much awaited season for the first time since the suspended edition of 2021. Mumbai Police is geared up to ensure full security for the IPL, which will kick off this weekend at the Wankhede stadium in South Mumbai.
This time, the provision of no bio bubbles and the return of spectators to the stadium marks restoration of a close-to-normalcy phase and 70 league matches will be played across four stadiums in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that more than 25 percent of crowd capacity will be allowed in the stadiums for the upcoming season of the IPL 2022.
The cricket lovers, who missed the buzz for the last two years, are looking forward to watch and support their teams and are excited to return back to stadiums. A total of ten teams will take on each other in this 15th edition of the IPL, with the first match taking place between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Some unverified viral messages on social media had said that `terrorists' had conducted recce at Hotel Trident, the Wankhede Stadium and along the bus route between these two locations. But the police release said they had not received any such information. Mumbai police asked people and mediapersons not to pay heed to false reports and rumours and at present, there have been no intelligence inputs about any terror threat to the cricket extravaganza.
