IPL 2022, MI vs RR: Following their 2nd straight defeat of the season, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said the team will not rush Suryakumar Yadav's return as he recovers from a finger injury.
Mumbai Indians have dearly missed their star batter, Suryakumar Yadav, in the new IPL 2022 season as they have lost their first two matches in the tournament. The India star is yet to fully recover from a finger injury that kept him out of action from the white-ball assignment against Sri Lanka last month.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said the 5-time champions are not rushing Suryakumar back into action and that they want to give him enough time to completely recover from the injury. The skipper's comments came after Mumbai lost their 2nd game of IPL 2022, failing to chase 194 against Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday, April 2.
Notably, Director of Cricket Zaheer Khan had said on the eve of their contest that Suryakumar was available for selection after the Mumbai batter joined the team earlier this week after completing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. However, Suryakumar was not picked in the playing XI against RR.

"He is a key player for us. Once he gets fit, he comes in straight but we want him to recover since finger injuries are tricky," Rohit said.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma said he felt his team should have chased down a target of 194 against Rajasthan Royals on a good batting pitch where Jos Buttler hit the first hundred of IPL 2022 for the Royals.
Skipper Rohit failed to get going but the fifties from Ishan Kishan and the highly-impressive Tilak Verma were not enough for Mumbai. However, the most successful captain in the tournament played down the poor start to their campaign, saying they will learn from their losses.
