IPL 2022: Kolkata Knight Riders team profile
India Today
The Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders will aim for their 3rd IPL title after roping in multidimensional and experienced players in all departments in a bid to rule the charts in IPL 2022.
2-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be looking to recreate old magic under the young Shreyas Iyer in a bid for their 3rd Indian Premier League title in IPL 2022. Notably, KKR reached the finals in the last edition in the UAE, but a change of captaincy will make things interesting for the franchise.
The first game will be a rematch of the IPL 2021 final with KKR looking to take revenge on the defending champions. IPL 2022 will be a 10-team event with franchises from Lucknow and Gujarat being added to the league.
Australia's Pat Cummins will lead the pacers while Lockie Ferguson with a bunch of promising Indians — Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav and Rasikh Dar — will add firepower to the KKR pace attack. They bid adieu to some of their experienced players Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, and welcomed the likes of the dynamic batter Shreyas Iyer for a sum of INR 12.25 crore, senior Test batter Ajinkya Rahane (INR 1 crore), England white-ball specialist Sam Billings (INR 2 crore), one of the most promising domestic talents Sheldon Jackson (INR 60 lakh) to name a few.
Kolkata Knight Riders will surely miss the helpful conditions for pace bowlers that Eden Gardens offers.
IPL 2022 Auctions
Kolkata Knight Riders made the first big move at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction when they picked up Shreyas Iyer and then retained Australia Test captain, Pat Cummins. Kolkata retained Nitish Rana and Shivam Mavi for what could be considered an extravagant amount of Rs 15.25 crore in total. And it wasn’t until the final stages of the auction on day two that they picked up the likes of Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Alex Hales and Sam Billings, all of whom could possibly be constant features in IPL 2022.
