IPL 2022: After Tim Seifert became the 2nd Delhi Capitals player to test Covid-19 positive, the BCCI decided to shift their 7th match of the season, scheduled for Friday, from MCA in Pune to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced that the Delhi Capitals' 7th match of IPl 2022 against Rajasthan Royals, scheduled for Friday, April 22 has been moved from Pune to Mumbai. The decision was taken after another Delhi Capitals player -- New Zealand wicketkeeper batter Tim Seifert - tested positive for Covid-19.
Delhi and Rajasthan Royals were set to meet at the MCA Stadium in Pune but the crunch game will now be played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, this is the second time that a Delhi game has been moved as their game against Punjab Kings on Wednesday was moved from Pune to the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
The Match 32 of IPL 2022 was in doubt after it emerged on Wednesday that Seifert had become the 2nd Delhi Capitals player after Mitchell Marsh to contract the virus. However, the BCCI decided to go ahead with the match after confirming that the rest of the Delhi Capitals contingent, barring 6 Covid positive members, returned negative results in 2 rounds of testing conducted on the match day.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a change of venue for Match No. 34 Delhi Capital versus Rajasthan Royals from MCA Stadium, Pune to Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai scheduled on April 22th, 2022," the BCCI said in a release.
"The decision on the change of venue was made as a precautionary measure after Delhi Capitals registered the 6th COVID case with New Zealand wicketkeeper Mr Tim Seifert returning positive in today’s RT-PCR testing."
