IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals won the toss against Mumbai Indians in their opening match on Sunday and fielded only 2 overseas players. Rohit Sharma's MI had plenty of fresh faces.
In a rare occurrence in the Indian Premier League (IPL), only two overseas players were fielded by Delhi Capitals in their opening match of the 2022 season against 5-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Delhi Capitals played only 2 overseas players due to player availability issues, becoming only the first team since Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 to do so. Rishabh Pant won the toss with Delhi fielding New Zealand's Tim Seifert and West Indies big-hitter Rovman Powell as the two overseas players.

Incidentally, Pant had fun after winning the toss as he made an attempt to name the entire playing XI. While we have seen captains in the past struggling to even recall the team changes, Pant nearly pulled off the feat of naming the XI for Delhi Capitals.

Delhi are missing the likes of David Warner, who recently completed the Test series with Australia in Pakistan, and Anrich Nortje, who has joined the DC camp but is still recovering from a hip injury that kept him out of competitive action for close to 6 months.
Pant was delighted att winning the toss against Rohit Sharma's men as he added that he wanted to get the call at the coin toss right at the Brabourne Stadium, which is hosting an IPL match for the first time since 2015.
