IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting said he is hopeful that their overseas stars, Anrich Nortje, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, will be able to join them after missing the first 2 matches of the new season.
Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting said he is hopeful that South Africa pacer Anrich Norje and explosive Australia opener David Warner will be available for selection for their next IPL 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday.
Delhi Capitals have missed their overseas stars Nortje, Warner and Mitchell Marsh for the first two games. Despite beginning their campaign with a victory over Mumbai Indians, the former finalists were beaten by 14 runs by Gujarat Titans in their 2nd IPL 2022 game on Saturday in Pune.
Nortje has joined the camp in Mumbai but the Delhi Capitals pacer, who was retained by the side, has been awaiting clearance from Cricket South Africa. The tearaway fast bowler was sidelined after last year's T20 World Cup due to a back and hip injury.
On the other hand, Warner arrived in India late as he was part of the Australia squad for the recently-concluded Test series in Pakistan. He was resend for the ongoing-limited series in Lahore.
"I think he (Nortje) has to get through another maybe four or five-over spell at 100 percent capacity and then I think if he gets clearance from Cricket South Africa, he should be right to go," Ponting said.
"We have got a few more days before our next game, so hopefully he is available for selection for that one.
Ponting confirmed that Warner will be available for selection for their next game, which comes after a 4-day break. There were concerns about Mitchell Marsh's availability as he was ruled out of the limited-overs series in Pakistan due to a hip injury but Ponting believes he can be available sooner than later.
