IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Ishan Kishan became the second most expensive Indian player after Mumbai Indians bought him back for Rs 15.25 crore on Day 1 of the auction.
Young wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan became the second most expensive Indian player after Yuvraj Singh as Mumbai Indians bought him back for Rs 15.25 crore on Day 1 of the auction. Kishan was sold for more than 7 times his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Kishan provides additional flexibility to the management in terms of constructing the team around him. Kishan already has a strike rate of over 130 in all phases and has a favorable record against all bowling types apart from off-spin.
Mumbai Indians were quick to fight off Punjab first before going head-to-head in a bidding war with Gujarat. The bid escalated quickly with Gujarat pushing Mumbai beyond the 13 Crore mark. Hyderabad then threw their hat into the ring once Gujarat backed out. Mumbai though refused to back down despite the figure rising beyond the 15 crore mark and finally get their man for a whopping Rs. 15.25 Crore.
IPL 2022 Auction: Live Updates
Mumbai Indians did not retain Ishan Kishan ahead of the IPL mega auction with the franchise opting to retain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav. Dinesh Karthik pointed out that Kishan's ability to hit the ball from ball one puts him on the list of some rare players.
"He is got tremendous skills... He can attack from ball one. That's a skill every player doesn't possess. In the new age, players try to attack a lot from ball one. Teams that have succeeded in doing that consistently have done very well in multi-nation tournaments. So Ishan definitely has a good chance to come into the scheme of things," Karthik was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
