IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades is under precautionary medical supervision after collapsing during the first session of the mega auction on Saturday. Charu Sharma took over from the British auctioneer.
Celebrated sports commentator and quizmaster Charu Sharma took over as the auctioneer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction on Saturday in Bengaluru. Sharma replaces auctioneer Hugh Edmeades, who collapsed midway during the first session of the mega auction.
Charu Sharma, who has been a commentator for multiple sports in the past, is a Bengaluru resident and he will continue the post-lunch session on Day 1 of the mega auction. Sharma’s association with the IPL dates back to 2008 when he was working with the Royal Challengers Bangalore as its CEO.

Hugh Edmeades is doing fine after being attended by the medical team but he will take a rest on Saturday. Official broadcasters confirmed that Edmeades is placed under precautionary medical supervision. Edmeades, according to ESPN, suffered low blood pressure before collapsing in the auction room.
"Mr. Hugh Edmeades, the IPL Auctioneer, had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension during the IPL Auction this afternoon," an IPL statement read.
