IPL 2021: R Ashwin disappointed me a bit, hope he bowls more traditional off-spinners - Gautam Gambhir

IPL 2021: Gautam Gambhir said Ravichandran Ashwin bowled too many variations in Delhi Capitals' win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, adding he believes that the off-spinner will be well served if he sticks to his basics more.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir said he was disappointed a bit by Ravichandran Ashwin's performance on his return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Delhi Capitals' 8-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday in Dubai. Gambhir highlighted that Ashwin had a good opportunity to bowl his off-spinners when he came into the attack after the powerplay but relied on his variations a bit too much, once again.

Gambhir said it is necessary that Ashwin, who is part of India's T20 World Cup squad, releases he is an off-spinner and bowlers can pick up wickets in the IPL by bowling traditional off-spin as well. The former Kolkata Knight Riders captain said it's important to stick to basics and settle into a rhythm after not having had match practice for a while.
