IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians lost their opening game in 2013 under Ricky Ponting, jinx has continued for 8 years

Indian Premier League: Defending champions Mumbai Indians have played not won a single opening fixture since 2013. Even though they have won five IPL titles since and the opening fixture jinx has continued for 8 years.

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians will be looking to continue their winning ways as they get ready to defend their title once again in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in IPL 2021. Rohit Sharma’s MI stretched the record for most IPL titles with their fifth win last year and will be looking to do the same in IPL 2021 to complete a hat trick of triumphs. But Mumbai Indians, who won their first title 8 years ago, had lost their opening fixture that year under Ricky Ponting’s captaincy. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won their opening fixture at home by 2 runs against Mumbai. Interestingly, the captain of MI back in that game was Ricky Ponting and a young Jasprit Bumrah had made his IPL debut.
