The iPhone 14 Pro models will reportedly have new sensors that will be able to capture 1.4µm pixels, which will help offer more detailed shots and better low light performance.
Apple is gearing up to announce its latest iPhone 14 series in a few days and as we are inching closer to the launch event, more leaks are surfacing online. It was just recently reported that the iPhone 14 Pro models could come with a satellite connectivity feature. Now, a popular analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, is claiming that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will come with new ultra-wide angle cameras.
The Pro models will reportedly have new sensors that will be able to capture 1.4µm pixels, which will help offer more detailed shots and better low light performance. For your reference, the existing iPhone 13 Pro variants can 1.0µm pixels using their ultra wide-angle cameras.
The cited source further says that the devices will use Sony’s CMOS imaging sensor. It will reportedly be backed by a new voice coil motor (VCM) and a new compact camera module. Kuo says that VCM will be taken care by Minebea and Largan. LG might be the supplier for the main camera module. However, these components are costing Apple a huge amount of money. These will reportedly be 70 percent more expensive than the ones the current iPhone models have.
The rear camera module is also said to include a 48-megapixel main camera that uses 4-in-1 pixel binning method. So, the new iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to offer images with better colour accuracy and details. The front cameras might also get a big update and have support for autofocus with a f/1.9 aperture. So users should get better quality images in comparison to the fixed focus camera that the existing iPhones have.
The iPhone 14 series is also said to have the Astrophotography mode. Apple has sent out invites for the event and the banner has a space theme, which suggests that the new iPhone might have an Astrophotography feature too, apart from the Satellite connectivity option. If this turns out to be true, then one will be able to use their iPhone 14 to capture the moon or stars. But, the feature won’t likely give an immediate output. Of course, the exposure time will be longer and the camera’s internal processing will take more time to offer an overall better quality image.
