iOS 16 beta brings back battery percentage for iPhones, but only some models will get it for now

Apple has released the iOS 16 beta 5 and it has brought back the battery percentage that Apple stopped displaying eons ago. The beta 5 update now displays battery percentage on the status bar. Previously, Apple displayed the battery percentage on the left of the battery icon, but now it has been positioned inside the battery icon. Apple removed the battery percentage in the Apple iPhone X. Users faced difficulty with knowing the exact battery percentage, but iOS 16 will fix the issue.

The feature is currently available to the iOS beta testers. In order to see the battery percentage, you will have to update to the latest beta version. And even after updating, you don't see the percentage. That is because it will not be turned on by default. You will have to manually turn on the feature by going to the Settings, Battery and flip on the battery percentage. The battery percentage was only visible in select iPhone models. It was not seen on the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini. This may not be the case forever. It may change in the future updates, but for now this will remain the case.

There is a major design flaw in how the new battery percentage icon has been shaped. The battery percentage will appear within the battery icon, so in order to fully see the percentage, your battery should be charged at all times. The percentage will not be legible or say it can also appear full if the battery percentage is less than 70 per cent. If you suffer from nearsightedness, viewing the battery percentage would be a herculean task for you.

At the same time, Apple can be credited for bringing back the much-needed feature. It helps you with knowing exactly how much juice is left. The current setup also allows you to view the battery percentage, but for that you need to swipe down to the control center, the percentage appears next to the battery icon and it is pretty legible.
