Approximately two dozen firefighters and seven fire trucks were called to the blaze in the 10600 block of 135A Street in the city's Whalley neighbourhood around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the Surrey Police Service.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find towering flames and heavy smoke at the rear of the complex, which houses restaurants and a pharmacy.
Fire crews were able to shut off a gas line connected to the building before attacking the fire, according to the Surrey Fire Service.
Investigators remained on scene Thursday morning to try to determine the cause of the blaze.
Three days earlier, an apparent explosion and fire damaged a strip mall in neighbouring Coquitlam.
