Jharkhand's Sangeeta Soren, who played for India at the U17 and U18 level before getting a senior team call-up, has been forced to work as a daily-wage labourer at a brick kiln. The 20-year-old footballer is hoping government help comes her way to help her pursue her dream.
Women's football team player Sangeeta Soren is a victim of neglect. The 20-year-old football player, who had received a national-call up last year before the Covid-19 lockdown brought the sporting world to a standstill, has been forced to work as a daily-wage labourer at a Brick Kiln in Dhanbad's Basamudi village. Sangeeta Soren was promised help by Chief Minister Hemant Soren last year after a video of her seeking help during the lockdown was widely shared on social media. After waiting for help from the government without any success, Sangeeta has taken to brick kilning to help support her family. Things were heading in the right direction for Sangeeta Soren who kept working hard on her game despite financial struggles. Sangeeta was picked in U-17 India squads for age-group tournaments at the continental level in Bhutan and Thailand in 2018-19. A senior team call-up also came the Jharkhand player's way but the pandemic has disrupted her plans.More Related News
