The International Day of Democracy is celebrated every year on September 15. Democracy is a form of government where the citizens of a state have the authority to decide matters of legislation, either directly or through representatives. This type of government finds its way back to the times of Socrates in Athens. The definitive components of democracy have changed since its origin and are adopted by different countries in different ways.

International Day of Democracy will be celebrated on September 15, 2021. According to the United Nations, International Day of Democracy “provides an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world”. The aim of the day is to make the ideal of democracy “into a reality to be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere.”
