West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee hit out at the Centre, saying that installing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's statue at India Gate would not end the Centre's responsibilities.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday hit out at the Centre, saying that installing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's statue at India Gate would not end the Centre's responsibilities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will install a hologram statue of Netaji at India Gate on Sunday. This hologram statue will later be replaced by a physical statue once it is constructed.
"The statue is happening because of our pressure. Making a statue doesn't end your responsibility," said Mamata Banerjee.
Mamata Banerjee went on to state that by creating a mere statue, the work of the central government does not end, neither does it mean that he is being respected.
The Bengal CM also stated that the date of death of Netaji is still unknown. "We still don't know what happened to Netaji. It's still a mystery. This government had stated that they will declassify files. We have digitalised and declassified files on Netaji," he said.
Mamata Banerjee also announced a university on Netaji's name and a monument in the memory of the Indian National Army (INA).
Mamata Banerjee also raised the issue of West Bengal's tableau for Republic Day, which was rejected by the Centre. "What would happen if there was a tableau? Once I proposed a tableau on Tagore, it was rejected. Why such allergy?" she asked.
