Two women kidnapped a four-day-old girl from King George hospital in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday night. Police were able to trace the baby to Srikakulam district and recovered the infant girl. Three people have been detained.
Two unidentified women kidnapped a four-day-old girl from King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam, one of the biggest and oldest hospitals in Andhra Pradesh. A woman named Appayamma gave birth to a baby girl four days ago.
On Wednesday night, two women kidnapped the baby when the mother was asleep. CCTV footage showed the woman taking the baby from the hospital and boarding an auto-rickshaw.
Amid the confusion, police officials launched a massive hunt, while family members staged a protest, questioning the security of the hospital.
On Thursday, a team traced the baby to Kaviti village in Srikakulam district, approximately some 250 kilometres from Vishakapatanam.
The police team nabbed both the women during a vehicle check and recovered the newborn infant.
The accused, M Lakshmi Prasanna, another woman and a male, M Rajesh Kumar, were detained with the help of technical surveillance and highway petrol.
The Srikakulam Police brought the baby to Visakhapatnam immediately so that she gets immediate nursing and care from her mother.
