Indian culture is like a necklace and every language is a gem: Victor Banerjee on Hindi debate
India Today
In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Victor Banerjee spoke about how unnecessary the Hindi debate is in the first place, as each language is a gem.
Veteran actor Victor Banerjee will be seen playing the role of nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in the Indo-Argentine film Thinking of Him. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Victor Banerjee spoke about the language debate that erupted on Twitter a few days ago.
INDIA IS A BEAUTIFUL NECKLACE AND THE LANGUAGES ARE GEMS: BANERJEE
Speaking about the language controversy sparked on the micro-blogging site, Banerjee said that the issue should not have been created in the first place.
“I spend half of my time in Assam and half in Himachal. I love both cultures. One of the greatest saints, Srimanta Sankardeva of Assam, who started the Bhakti movement in Assam, was the first person to introduce the word ‘Bharatvarsha’. Each culture is a gem in itself. When you put all the gems together, you can make a beautiful necklace which is Bharatvarsha. That’s why I think that each language has a character of its own and it is necessary to admire all of them. Each one of us should respect each other’s language and not fight over a national language at all,” Banerjee explained.
AJAY DEVGN-KICCHA SUDEEP HINDI DEBATE:
After Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn criticised Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep’s comment on Hindi not being a national language, Twitter was distinctly divided into two sections. While one part stood with Devgn’s point of view, others tweeted about how Sudeep’s comment was apt, keeping in mind the roaring success of South films.
Ajay Devgn shot a jibe at Sudeep after he talked about how Hindi is no more a national language in an exclusive interview with Karnataka Tak. "Kiccha Sudeep, my brother, according to you, if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your native language [mother tongue] films by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man," read Devgn’s tweet which was originally posted in Hindi.
