Virat Kohli's 100th Test match to be played against Sri Lanka at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali is going to be without spectators behind closed doors.
Virat Kohli will be playing his 100th Test match at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali behind closed doors, as the Punjab Cricket Association CEO Deepak Sharma confirmed that no fans will be allowed in the first Test between India and Sri Lanka, starting March 4.
Notably, Kohli will be playing his 100th Test match under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, who is leading India for the first time in Test cricket. India will take on Sri Lanka in the first of the two-match Test series in Mohali, while the second Test match will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
" The first Test between India and Sri Lanka will be played behind closed doors with no spectators allowed," Punjab Cricket Association CEO Deepak Sharma was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
After India's 2-1 defeat at the hands of South Africa in the away series, Kohli had relinquished the Test captaincy. Kohli had stepped down as the Test captain after becoming India's most successful captain of the Indian side in the longest and oldest format of the game.
Kohli led the Indian team to 40 wins in 68 Test appearances as captain. Kohli has the fourth-best winning percentage after Steve Waugh, Don Bradman and Ricky Ponting. Under his leadership, Kohli contested the final of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021.
Kohli's greatest achievement as captain was in leading India to its first ever Test series triumph in Australia. Passionate about Tests, the failure to beat South Africa in a Test series on this tour would go down among his greatest disappointments.
