India vs Sri Lanka: Virat Kohli, who will be playing his 100th Test in Mohali from Friday, has an opportunity to break Rahul Dravid's home record and also get into the 8000-run club during the upcoming 2-Test series.
It is all set to be a landmark Test for Indian cricket when they take on Sri Lanka in Mohali in the series opener from Friday. While former captain Virat Kohli will feature in his 100th Test, Rohit Sharma will lead India in a Test match for the first time in his decorated career.
With fans up to 50 percent capacity set to be allowed at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, Virat Kohli's landmark Test will have a festive outlook. The PCA officials have said that the Kohli will be felicitated by the state association and BCCI officials have also been invited for the Test, which will kick off the 2-Test series against Sri Lanka.
Virat Kohli, as usual, is eyeing a couple of major milestones as he is just 38 runs away from becoming the 6th India batter to amass 8000 runs in Test cricket. He also has the opportunity to complete 8000 runs as the fifth fastest from the country.
Kohli will follow the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Rahul Dravid (13288), Sunil Gavaskar (10122), VVS Laxman (8781) and Virender Sehwag (8586) to go past the 8000-run mark.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli needs 237 runs to overtake head coach Dravid on the list of most runs scored by Indian batters against Sri Lanka in home Tests.
Kohli has a stunning record against Sri Lanka, having scored 610 runs, including 3 hundreds, in just 3 Tests at home. Kohli has scores of 0, 104 not out (2017 in Kolkata), 213 (2017 in Nagpur) and 243 and 50 (2017 in Delhi) against the islanders.
Given his record against Sri Lanka, it wouldn't come as a surprise if Kohli ends the 2-year-long wait for his 71st international hundred in the upcoming series.
