India vs South Africa: David Miller said he headed to the Maldives for a short break to refresh after playing a crucial role in Gujarat Titans' winning campaign in IPL 2022.
South Africa's star batter David Miller said the success that he had with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 doesn't put any extra pressure on him as he prepares to play a pivotal role in the upcoming 5-match T20I series against India, staring June 9.
David Miller, who had a couple of ordinary seasons in the IPL, showcased signs of his vintage self, scoring 481 runs in 16 matches for Gujarat. He played the finisher's role to perfection and was crucial to Gujarat winning the IPL title in their debut season.
"Not any extra pressure or weight on my shoulders. In every international game that I have played, whether as a senior or junior, there has always been a sense of pressure. So I don't think it changes. Just that with experience I deal with it a lot better," Miller told the press on Tuesday in New Delhi.
Miller had scored in excess of 350 runs in the IPL between 2013 and 2015. However, he was not able to live up to the expectations between 2016 and 2021, managing over 200 runs in just one season in the said period. However, with the backing of his captain Hardik Pandya and mentor Gary Kirsten, Miller found a new lease of life in IPL 2022.
Miller said he did not do anything different with regards to his preparations in the lead-up to IPL 2022 but the experience of having been in high-pressure situations helped him deliver for Gujarat Titans.
"I wouldn't say I have done anything differently. Being around a long time now, one grows and matures in role I play for so many years, I understand my game a lot better," Miller said.
"Scoring the number of runs I did, closing out a couple of games is something I looked forward to before the start of IPL. Batting in the middle order, you do want to finish off games. So it was nice to tick that box.
