Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow's unbeaten 269-run stand for the fourth wicket powered England to beat India by seven wickets in the 5th Test and square the five-match series 2-2.
India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant conceded that the team's target has moved a little farther but assured the fans that the focus is still intact after losing the rescheduled fifth Test to England.
Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow's unbeaten 269-run stand for the fourth wicket powered England to beat India by seven wickets and square the five-match series 2-2.
England had raced to 259/3 at stumps on Day 4 and needed only 119 runs to draw the series. The hosts crossed the line without breaking a sweat in the first session of Day 5 as Root (142*) and Bairstow (114*) guided England to pull off their highest successful chase in Test cricket.
England gunned down the 378-run target in 76.4 overs as Indian bowlers failed to break the partnership.
Pant, who along with Ravindra Jadeja recovered India following an early collapse in the first innings, said: "Target has moved little farther but the focus is still intact. We will be back stronger."
