India-China Ties Going Through Very Difficult Phase: S Jaishankar

On India-China ties, foreign minister S Jaishankar said that India had agreements with China not to bring military forces to the border, but China violated those agreements.
India's relations with China right now was going through a "very difficult phase" after Beijing violated border agreements, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday, underlining that the "state of the border will determine the state of the relationship".
Mr Jaishankar, addressing the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2022 Panel Discussion in Munich, said that there is a problem India is having with China.
"And the problem is that for 45 years there was peace, there was stable border management, there were no military casualties on the border from 1975," he said in response to a question from the host.
"That changed because we had agreements with China not to bring military forces to the… we call it the border but it's Line of Actual Control, and the Chinese violated those agreements," Mr Jaishankar said. He said that "the state of the border will determine the state of the relationship, that's natural".
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Shinde Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP, is en route to a thumping win in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election, thanks to its two smaller allies.
The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader said the results are not acceptable to his party and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition.
The Adani Group said that none of its 11 public companies are implicated or accused of any wrongdoing.
The MVA had only been given a (very) slim chance of upsetting the in-power BJP-led alliance's applecart in this election; only one of 11 exit polls studied by NDTV believed it can win.
The first phase saw voting in 43 constituencies, while the second phase saw 38 seats up for grabs. Chief Minister Hemant Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), leading the ruling INDIA alliance, faces a fierce challenge from the BJP-led NDA.
