New Zealand captain Kane Williamson comfortable being underdogs vs India in WC semi. India favourites, unbeaten in 9 matches. Williamson praises India for balance despite Hardik Pandya's injury. New Zealand have chance to win on their day, but India have done better than anyone in the World Cup
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on November 14 conceded he was comfortable with being labelled the underdogs for the World Cup semifinal against India here, adding that the hosts have done exceedingly well despite Hardik Pandya's unavailability causing imbalance.
India are considered as the favourites against New Zealand for the first semifinal to be played on Wednesday in what will be a repeat of the final four clash four years ago in the 2019 edition.
New Zealand were the last to book their semifinal slot with India being the first side in the final four, followed by South Africa and Australia.
India have gone unbeaten in the World Cup so far, winning all their nine matches in the league round and are the only team to do so.
"The underdog thing — from what you guys write I do not think it has changed too much, but that is fine you know, and India have been exceptional," Williamson told the media on the eve of the World Cup semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium.
However, the New Zealand captain said the semifinals would place every side on an even keel and the Kiwis have as much chance as their opponents.
"(India are) one of the, if not the best team going around and playing cricket that matches that, but we know as well on our day when we play our best cricket, it certainly gives us the best chance, and anything can happen," he said.
Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Dakshina Kannada MP, on Saturday urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to facilitate speeding up of ongoing critical infrastructure works in the region, including Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 widening, establishment of Indian Coast Guard Academy, and merger of Konkan Railway Corporation with the Indian Railways.
