In last 8 years ...: Rahul Gandhi tears into BJP over gas price hike
India Today
“In the last eight years, a gas cylinder worth Rs 410 has been hiked to Rs 1,100 and, in some states, even more. Inflation is wreaking havoc on the general public," Rahul Gandhi said in a Facebook post.
Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Congress’s massive outreach programme - the Bharat Jodo Yatra, today posted a photo from the mega march, slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi over skyrocketing prices of cooking gas.
“This picture is telling not only of Kerala but of the whole country. Before becoming the prime minister, Narendra Modi gave big speeches on inflation, threw rhetoric, and got emotional on seeing women cooking on the stove. But what is the reality today?” the Congress scion wrote on Facebook along with a picture of Congress workers holding up gas cylinder cut-outs with its prices now and during the UPA regime.
“In the last eight years, a gas cylinder worth Rs 410 has been hiked to Rs 1,100 and, in some states, even more. Inflation is wreaking havoc on the general public. People are not even getting enough food to eat twice a day. Forget about the poor, because, anyway, the king does not even see them in front of his rich 'friends',” he added.
“Ever since our Bharat Jodo Yatra has started, BJP asks every day, why is the Congress party doing this rally? What is the need for it? I will tell you - these people who are seen expressing their troubles in the pictures, they have been torn apart by the 'costly times' of the BJP. This is the general public.”
“They work hard day and night, barely making ends meet with their blood and sweat. Today, the BJP government is bent on snatching whatever they have - be it employment or their capital. To fight the struggle of these people of our country, to make their voices heard to this deaf government, we are traveling across India. With so many becoming a part of this journey of ours, the unity will shake the throne of this arrogant government,” Rahul Gandhi said.
The Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra aims to cover over 3,500 km in 150 days. It began in Kanyakumari and will culminate in Jammu and Kashmir.
