In sobering news for Mamata Banerjee, the BJP has claimed that quite a few of her party MPs and MLAs cross-voted in Droupadi Murmu's favour.
As the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu triumphed over Opposition’s Yashwant Sinha on Thursday, news emerged that could potentially make West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee heartsick.
The BJP has claimed that three TMC members of Parliament and MLAs cross-voted in favour of President-elect Droupadi Murmu, while the votes of quite a few others were declared invalid after polling ended on July 18.
Amit Malviya, the BJP’s IT in-charge, tweeted that two TMC MPs and an MLA cross-voted in favour of the NDA candidate. Adding insult to injury, he added that the votes of two TMC MPs and four MLAs were counted as invalid.
Taking a swipe at Mamata Banerjee, Malviya said the TMC chief who hopes to stitch together a united Opposition, failed to woo her own party members and ensure unity.
2 TMC MPs and 1 MLA cross voted. Vote of 2 TMC MPs and 4 MLAs declared invalid. Mamata Banerjee, self appointed fulcrum of opposition unity, failed to prevail over her own legislators. On the other hand, despite intimidation, all BJP WB legislators backed Smt Droupadi Murmu
