In a first, Kashmir’s Kulgam opens library and reading room for UPSC aspirants

The Kulgam district administration has set up a library and reading room for students preparing for the civil services and other competitive exams in the district.
The Kulgam District Administration established a library-cum-reading room in Kulgam town in South Kashmir aimed at providing facilities for students preparing for different competitive exams.
Speaking to India Today, Deputy Commissioner, (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat said that there was a demand for a reading room in the district for Civil Services aspirants. “We have finally succeeded in establishing a reading cum library room with the help of PRIs, especially District Development Council (DDC) and Block Development Council (BDC).”

Bhat said that the library will help the students prepare for the civil services exam, Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) and other competitive exams, adding that proper facilities are required for civil service preparations which have now been made available in the area.
“Interested youth can get benefit of the facility as books needed by UPSC exam aspirants are available. Besides that, the internet and other facilities are also available here and a guidance programme will be started so that local young people can shine in competitive exams,” he said.
Kulgam DC further said that all their policies have been ‘pro-youth’ and that young people must come forward and secure their future. “More libraries will be established in other parts of the district, however, this one has been kept exclusively for civil service aspirants,” he said.
