The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into cyclonic storm Asani on Sunday morning, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said. It warned that the weather system could turn into a severe cyclonic storm later in the evening.
“Deep depression formed over southwest Bay of Bengal, about 300km west-southwest of Port Blair. To move northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over southeast Bay of Bengal by morning and into a severe cyclonic storm over eastern-central Bay of Bengal by evening today,” the IMD stated.

On Saturday, the weather office said that Cyclone Asani will not make landfall in either Odisha or Andhra Pradesh, but will move parallel to the coast.
The cyclonic storm brewing in the Bay of Bengal will likely move northwestward towards the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts on Tuesday (May 10) evening. It will then recurve northwards and move towards northwest Bay of Bengal.
