IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai, Palghar and other places; heavy rainfall likely

An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg today. South Mumbai in the last 24 hours received more rains as compared to the suburbs.
An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg today by the Regional Meteorological Centre. On Sunday, most parts of Mumbai saw moderate showers through the wee hours and into the late morning.
South Mumbai in the last 24 hours received more rains as compared to the suburbs.
The IMD's Colaba observatory recorded around 67 mm rainfall while the Santacruz observatory recorded 13 mm rainfall.
However, very heavy rains are likely this weekend.
Mumbai and its surrounding areas will receive moderate to heavy rains in the next 24-36 hours after which it will decrease in intensity.
"Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain in city and suburbs. Possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places," the weather agency said.
With the fresh spell of rain, the air quality in Mumbai is in the 'good category'. System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), a government agency, today morning informed that the overall AQI is at 29 at 8:45 AM.
