There is no respite from heat for the people of Gujarat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heat wave conditions in the state for the next three days.
Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in the isolated pockets in the districts of North Gujarat region, namely Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana and Patan; in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch, namely Gir Somnath, Porbandar, Surendranagar and Kutch.
IMD has forecasted moderate temperature in the state with heat ‘tolerable for general public’ but moderate health concern for vulnerable people such as infants, the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
People have been advised to avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose, cotton clothes and cover their heads.
The IMD said that the Westerly to North westerly winds are prevailing at lower levels over the region with dry weather predicted in all the districts of the Gujarat region, Saurashtra-Kutch and in Diu, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
The maximum temperature will very likely be around 42 degrees Celsius.
On April 3, the temperature of most cities in Gujarat was recorded at 41-42 degrees Celsius. However, a yellow alert has been issued due to the possibility of temperature going up.
