On February 6, the entire nation woke up to the tragic news of composer Lata Mangeshkar's passing away. Music director Ilaiyaraaja took to social media to pay last respects to the legendary singer. He shared a video expressing his sadness and a few throwback photos from one of the recording sessions. In his tweet, Ilaiyaraaja said that he is blessed to have known Lata Mangeshkar.
Lata Mangeshkar's funeral will take place at Shivaji Park Ground, where she will be cremated. Her mortal remains were taken from her residence in Peddar Road. Thousands of people followed her hearse van praying for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Ilaiyaraaja shared a few photos with Lata Mangeshkar and wrote, "Heartbroken, but blessed to have known her & for having worked with her.. loved this incredible voice & soul... Lataji holds a place in our hearts that is irreplaceable. That's how profoundly she has impacted our lives with her voice. May she rest in peace & light up the heavens with her soulful voice (sic)."

In the video, Ilaiyaraaja said, "In the history of Indian film music, for the last six-seven decades, Lata ji mesmerised the world with her divine voice. I am deeply saddened by her death, which has left a big void in me. I don’t know how I will come out of this. Her demise is going to be a big loss not only for the music industry, but also for the whole world.”
