R Babu, who was rescued from a hill cleft in Kerala’s Palakkad district, told India Today that had it not been for his phone, he would never have been rescued.
R Babu, the 23-year-old who was rescued from a hill cleft in Kerala’s Palakkad district, has said that had it not been for his phone, he would never have been rescued.
Babu, along with his friends, went up the Kurumbachi hills in Cheradu, Palakkad on Monday, February 7. On their way down, Babu was exhausted and slipped on the rocks, ending up in a cavity in the hill. He was rescued by the Indian Army on Wednesday.
Speaking to India Today, Babu said, "I already informed people that I am stuck. That gave me the strength to hold on. I was thinking how I can get down even though I was injured."
"If I did not have the phone with me, I might not have received help. No one would have known where I was. I might have died. I understood the spot with the help of flash light and others recognised the area through my sound," Babu said.

Babu said he left for the place without telling anyone. "It's a dangerous place. I was thinking about how to get down. It was luck that I was able to get down. I had the confidence that I would escape somehow. All are surprised that I stayed there without drinking water for so long," he said.
