The Gulf Coast is still sifting through the aftermath and launching rescue missions in the wake of Ida's landfall as a hurricane, and officials say some areas could spend up to the next month of their recovery without power.
The desperation of those who rode out the storm can be seen in the four- to five-hour-long lines at the one or two gas stations still open in St. Bernard Parish, Council Member Richard Lewis said.
