ICC Rankings annual update: India extended their lead over England at the top of the T20I Rankings to 5 rating points. Australia are on top of the Test rankings while New Zealand are dominating the ODI charts.
India have cemented their No. 1 spot in ICC Men's T20I Rankings after the International Cricket Council released its annual update on Wednesday, May 3. India extended their lead over 2nd-placed England by a point as the two teams are now separated by 5 points at the top of the table.
India had a disappointing run in the T20 World Cup last year, faling to reach the knockout stages of an ICC event for the first time since 2012. However, ever since, the Asian giants have been in fine form in the shortest format of the game.
The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2019, with those completed prior to May 2021 weighted at 50 per cent and subsequent series weighted at 100 per cent, the ICC said.
Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India have gone 9-0 in T20I cricket, beating New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka at home. The former world champions will next face South Africa in a 5-match T20I series after the conclusion of Indian Premier League 2022 in June.
England are on second place with 265 rating points. Pakistan round up the top three with 261 rating points.
South Africa, ranked fourth, have made a jump of one spot maintaining their old rating points (253) while Australia too have gained a spot in the table and now sit at fifth, while maintaining their rating points (251).
New Zealand have dropped two places to No.6, losing five rating points (250). West Indies (240 points) remain on the seventh spot.
