IAF continues relief ops in flood-hit Assam, Meghalaya; 253 people rescued

Continuing its efforts to provide relief to flood victims in Assam and Meghalaya, the Indian Air Force airlifted 203 tonnes of relief material and also rescued 253 stranded people.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has been conducting flood relief operations in Assam and Meghalaya since June 21, 2022. Since then, the IAF has flown around 74 missions, rescued 253 stranded persons and dropped more than 200 tonnes of relief material as part of the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation conducted in aid to the civil administration of the affected areas.
IAF has deployed C-130J Super Hercules, an-32 transport aircraft, Mi-17V5 helicopters, Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Dhruv and Mi-17 helicopters to provide relief aid and supplies to the people stranded in these areas.

Operations are under progress in coordination with the civil administration.
The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday with the death toll rising to 118 and Silchar town in the Cachar district submerged for the sixth consecutive day. The floods in Assam have affected 33.03 lakh people in 28 districts.
