I don't understand Ravi Shastri 2.0, his comments have agenda: Sanjay Manjrekar
India Today
Sanjay Manjrekar said that Ravi Shastri's comments about a lot of people being unable to "digest" Virat Kohli having more success as Test captain is "not an accurate cricketing observation".
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri's recent comments on many being unable to "digest" Virat Kohli gaining more success as Test captain is "not an accurate cricketing observation", Sanjay Manjrekar has said. Manjrekar said that he doesn't want to be disrespectful towards Shastri as he has seen how helpful the latter is towards younger players when he played under Shastri's captaincy, but his recent comments have "agenda".
"I don't have an idea. I was a huge admirer of Ravi Shastri. I played under him, he gave players support, a great fighter, senior. This Shastri 2.0 I don't understand. What he says in public is expected, I don't react to it", he told News18.
"I don't want to be disrespectful. He doesn't make very intelligent comments, you can see the agenda behind it. It's not an accurate cricketing observation," he further added.
Shastri had told India Today that Kohli could have continued being India's Test captain for at least two years. Kohli stepped down a day after India's defeat in the third Test against South Africa."Whether Virat could have continued to lead India in Tests. For sure, he could have led India for at least 2 years because next two years India would be playing at home and who is coming over - 9 and 10 jacks, going by the rankings. But he would have then made it to 50-60 wins under his captaincy and a lot of people will not be able to digest that fact," Shastri said.
