India pacer Deepak Chahar has said that he could have been part of the squad for the West Indies tour but decided not to risk it.
India pacer Deepak Chahar has claimed that he could have made his comeback a few weeks ago and could have been part of the squad for the West Indies T20I series.
Chahar has been absent from cricket since February this year after suffering a hamstring injury. The 29-year-old also missed the whole of IPL 2022, as well as the series against South Africa and the tour of England.
The Indian pacer has been picked for the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe, which will start on 18th August. Now Chahar has revealed that he could have made his comeback during the ongoing tour of West Indies but didn't want to take a risk.
Speaking to News24, the Indian pacer said that recovering from an injury gives him time to get back to basics.
"I've had a lot of injuries in the past. But I have always believed that whenever you get injured, it gives you time to get back to basics. If you have any weaknesses, it gives you time to work on them. I've always worked on my game whenever I got injured," said Chahar.
Chahar also went on to say that he could have made his comeback into the national team a few weeks ago but didn't want to risk it as he wanted to give his 110 percent while playing for India. He also said that he would be able to perform better than the time he got injured.
“If I wanted, I could have made a comeback 2-3 weeks ago only. I could have played the T20 series against West Indies. But then, my thought process was that whenever you play, you give your 110 percent. Don't even play at 99 percent. I believe I should be able to perform better than the time before I got injured,” said Chahar.
