Telangana health officials report high rates of hypertension and diabetes, prompting minister to emphasize patient education and mobile technology.
Out of 1.66 crore people aged 30 and above in Telangana, 22.94 lakh suffer from hypertension, while 11.9 lakh have diabetes, senior Health officials told Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha at a review meeting held on Thursday.
The meeting aimed to assess the functioning of non-communicable disease (NCD) clinics established across the State to address the growing burden of chronic illnesses.
The Minister directed officials to compile a comprehensive list of patients categorised by village, mandal and district levels. Stressing the importance of continuous care, he highlighted the need for regular follow-ups to ensure patients adhere to prescribed treatments and adopt healthier lifestyles.
“Patients should be educated on the health complications that may arise from negligence in managing chronic diseases,” he stated, urging the Health Department to organise awareness programmes and provide tailored guidance on lifestyle changes.
He also highlighted the potential of mobile technology in enhancing patient engagement, and suggested that regular awareness campaigns and reminders about services available at NCD clinics be disseminated through mobile platforms to improve patient participation and compliance.
